Match Point

I enjoyed seeing Match Point very much. Interesting luck motif similar to that of Domino but much more classily presented. Tension and horror. I didn't agree with a fellow movie-goer who immediately after the film pronounced it "tedious, predictable, and long" -- indeed, I was pleased by an ending to the film that could have gone either way and which left ambiguous what was luck and what was calculated.

On what it is to be human

Read Anne Rice's The Tale of the Body Thief the other day. I enjoyed the depth of the Vampire LeStat character.

3:10 to Yuma

I saw 3:10 to Yuma with my dad. It was alright. Semi-interesting moral dilemma.

The Fugitive

I saw The Fugitive today while I exercised. Elizabeth watched most of it with me.

One of my favorite movies. Dad would call it "shamelessly manipulative".

Freakonomics

I finished Freakonomics today. It made great airplane reading and it's been hard to put it down and pay attention to my family since I've been home.

The authors accuse themselves of lacking a theme in this book. Perhaps -- I thought it had theme enough: giving conventional wisdoms a sober and critical look. But I did notice that any lack of theme was recovered by thoughtful, excellent transitions.

Is it shallow of me to enjoy the form, the words, the quality sentences, every bit as much, perhaps more, than I enjoy the ideas?

Brokeback Mountain

I saw Brokeback Mountain today.

It made me feel much better, somehow.

Walk the Line

I saw Walk the Line again today, and I enjoyed it every bit as much the second time as the first.

Playing by Heart

I saw Playing by Heart again today. This is one of my favorite movies. I like the way the storylines connect and are weaved together.

Talking about love is like dancing about architecture.

Serenity

Serenity came out on DVD, and I enjoyed seeing it again. It's still dark and depressing.

I am a leaf on the wind, watch me soar.
